"Go to Patagonia in November", they said. "It will already be great weather", they said...
Well, let´s face it. Our first days were in pretty rough climatic conditions. Yet, seeing the bright side, basically all of our rain gear was fully tested and more or less approved by that point.
While we were fighting our way inland from the wind epicenter Chaiten (see Vol. 2), we reunited and stopped for a short forest walk on our way to Puyuhuapi. Little did we know that the massive rain made this walk pretty much a jump-and-run exercise to keep our feet dry. The reward? An impressive and rumbling river, with grey/green water rushing past. The perfect rafting spot.

What followed was the arrival in the sleepy town of
Puyuhuapi. This place was perfect to dry gear, stock up, try ourselves in some "construction projects" and also, after all, make some new friends. Pets just as much as humans.
On one of our exploratory walks we discovered the "fjord" and felt much obliged to engage in some dam building. Plenty of stones were moved, yet with little success to keep the steady-flowing and ice-cold water in rein. We then focused on building a bridge to cross the stream and took the whole activity as one big team-building. Success after all!
Moving on. Before we started the trip we have received a few key tips of where to go and what to definitely see (hopefully much like you, reading this blog now :-) One of those places was the Glacier Ventisquero Colgante - the hanging glacier (thanks again, Nicolò!).
Ventisquero Colgante is located in the Queulat National Park and can be reached via some 2 hour hike across bridges and in fairly steep terrain later on. But all worth it when finally reaching the top, admiring the dramatic setting. The absolute highlight was the moment us witnessing the so called "glacier calving". A massive piece parting and rushing down into the canyon, leaving nothing but loud noise, crashing ice and four hikers with mouths and eyes wide open! Enjoy the videos.
Thrilled about the many new impressions, we decided to push forward, towards sunnier skies and even happier days...
